Meet the Fairowners: Aneta Claudia Marttila, our Software Engineer

Updated: Sep 19

This is your chance to get to know another fairowner: Aneta Claudia Marttila, our Software Engineer. Aneta joined Fairown, because she liked the greater cause of our business - our sustainable mission and goal to reduce e-waste by giving devices a new life. The idea that she’s able to make the world a better place through her work in coding hit different.

Aneta is truly something special as she has been able to study and work at the same time. The secret to this was that her studies in IT systems' development supported daily work and enabled her to put all new knowledge into practice.

Tell us about your professional background.

It took quite some time for me to figure out what I want my career path to be. For example, after high school, I actually studied law for a semester, but then realised that I miss solving logical and mathematical problems, which is why I went to learn IT systems’ development at TalTech.

Before joining Fairown as a Software Engineer, I was a software engineering intern at Telia. Also, I’ve worked at various positions in customer service, catering, and as an Assistant.

Why did you choose Fairown, what stood out for you?

I chose Fairown for its sustainable mission and the goal to reduce e-waste by giving devices a new life. I really like the idea that I’m able to make the world a better place through my work in coding.

What has your journey been like at Fairown?

It has been a wild ride. I’ve been at Fairown for almost a year and a half. It has been really interesting to see how fast the company can grow and evolve. To my surprise, I’m actually able to keep up with the pace.

How have you managed to combine work with your studies?

The reason I was able to study and work at the same time was that my studies supported my daily work and vice versa. I studied IT systems' development at university, and I was able to put everything I learnt into practice, immediately.

What have been your most interesting projects at Fairown?

My most interesting project has been building a subscription checkout solution for Apple Premium Reseller iDeal in the Baltics. It enables customers to choose their favourite Apple products and conveniently pay for them with our subscription service. I saw how it was built from scratch. It has taught me the most on how to work with the technical stack and tools.

What drives and inspires you the most in your daily work?

First of all, the work itself. Every day, I’m learning something new regarding software development. Also, I can really see how the solution we’re building is helping to reduce e-waste along the way.

Name some fun facts about yourself that we can’t find on your CV or social profile.

  • I'm collecting Moomin-themed mugs, especially the ones produced by Arabia. Currently, I have 42 different mugs. Shout-out to my co-workers who've contributed to my collection!

  • I like to spend my free time in the gym or playing computer games. I’m currently into Horizon Zero Dawn.

  • I sang in a choir for 11 years and I’ve performed at four Estonian Song Festivals.

Where do you see yourself and Fairown in a couple of years?

I believe that in a couple of years, Fairown has earned a spot on the Wall of Fame.

When it comes to me, I want to pursue my studies and obtain a Master’s degree. I hope that I’ve taken on more responsibility, gained more experience and knowledge that I can share with my future teammates.
