Updated: Sep 19

Let us introduce you to another fairowner: Karl-Joosep Kesküla, our Software Engineer!

Karl-Joosep joined Fairown, because he wanted to tackle new career challenges and work in a start-up-like environment, which allows for flexibility and freedom to innovate.

Karl-Joosep, our Software Engineer

Karl-Joosep’s most meaningful project has been setting up automated tests that have a large impact on the service quality our customers experience. He is inspired by the fact that his work has a direct impact on making the world a more sustainable and better place, as the circular economy principle underpins Fairown’s solution.

Karl-Joosep, tell us about your professional background.

My first professional experience was at Swedbank. I started as an intern and became a Software Engineer, but my main focus was on automated software testing. After some time, I earned the position of Test Automation Lead - I led the team of three, working on automated tests. And then I joined Fairown.

What has your journey been like at Fairown?

I joined Fairown, because I wanted some change in my working environment and to tackle new challenges. Working at a start-up or a big corporation is massively different. A start-up has the advantages of flexibility in terms of working hours and location, and also more freedom to innovate.

I started at Fairown as a Software Quality Assurance Engineer. I was mainly responsible for developing automated tests and manual testing. I always enjoyed the testing side of software development, but wanted to try out the development side, too. After 10 months of establishing a solid ground for automated and manual testing, I got to dip my toes in the water into software development. Since then, I’ve been dealing with both development and testing.

What have been your most exciting projects?

Definitely, setting up automated tests. It was also my first project - I built it from scratch and had the chance to decide everything on my own. The result of this project has a large impact on our service quality, and helps our team release software more confidently. It makes it easier for us to catch the bugs before they reach end customers.

What drives and inspires you the most in your daily work?

I’m most inspired by the fact that there is so much for me to learn. Every day I come to work, new challenges await me.

I’m driven by the opportunity that my work is directly making the world a more sustainable and better place to live. That’s the core principle underpinning Fairown’s solution - to enable the circular economy through sustainable production and consumption, encouraging product reuse and recycling.

How do you like to balance out your work, what are your hobbies?

I was very active in sports, and I’ve been part of the Estonian national youth volleyball team.

I’m a huge fan of video games. I think playing video games with my friends is a nice way to relax after a long day.

I’m also interested in the art of making fancy cocktails.

Where do you see yourself and Fairown in a couple of years?

On the moon! Jokes aside, I see limitless possibilities for us to expand and scale our product-as-a-service solution to Europe and beyond. As manufacturers, merchants, and consumers are becoming more conscious and responsible, sustainability is the only way forward. That’s exactly what Fairown’s payment plan delivers.
